Hello and welcome to the Politics is Rubbish Podcast.
My name’s Daniel Yates and I’m a Councillor in Brighton and Hove I represent Moulsecoomb and Bevendean Ward which is pretty much up near the University off the Lewes Road everything to the east of the Lewes road, all the way from the Vogue gyratory up to Falmer Stadium.
The idea of this podcast over the next few sessions is really to try to explain a little bit about local government, what does local government do why does your city council matters. And to talk about some of the issues that are going to be affecting people.
Mostly people say to me that politics is rubbish and that they are not interested in local politics.
Many people aren’t even interested in national politics but it’s always amazed me quite how often people then come to me moaning about things that are directly affected by politics.
Whether it’s moaning about the traffic on the roads whether it’s moaning about the number of students or the lack of students, the quality of accommodation they live in, the number of houses that they’re complaining about being built or the lack of housing being built.

Eastbourne.online’s Ray Dadswell talks with Myrtle Martin. She visited Montero in 2007 while on holiday and immediately felt a sense of coming home, to the place God wanted her to be. She started the organization in 2009 after researching the needs of disabled people in the district with local friends, linking with the local Baptist Church.
The day centre was opened in 2010 and by 2011 Runaperu was employing a physiotherapist, Leo. An activities leader delivered skills-based sessions 3 days a week while the centre was open for physio treatments. This provided our young people with a peer group and a support network. Many had not been able to access State education and did not have skills which would help them to gain greater independence.
Julissa joined our team as the activities leader in 2016 and Yessica supports Leo as a physiotherapy assistant. Yessica is paid for by the mayor of Montero who fully supports our work. The team continues to visit people at home in the communities around the town twice a week.

This is Episode 1 of Dragonfly support project’s new podcast.
Here’s an introduction into the work Dragonfly does to help students and their parents deal with university and college life.

Conservative Eastbourne Councillor for Ratton Ward Tony Freebody talks in 2018 about holding the LibDem led cabinet to account by offering credible alternatives to decisions or discussions.
Individually councillors talk to local residents about the things that make a real difference to resident’s lives; public anti-social behaviour, noisy neighbours and of course…bins not being emptied on time!
And of course, signposting and point people in the right direction so they speak to the right people. And quite, often, actually getting in touch with council employees on the residents behalf to make sure something is done about a particular issue ie Trading Standards at ESCC or the Police.
And how Councillors work to make Eastbourne a better place to live by looking at all sorts of issues from working towards making sure that Eastbourne has fast internet connectivity to help Eastbourne employers compete in this digital world.

An introduction to Eastbourne & Willingdon MP Stephen Lloyd. In these podcasts he discusses local Eastbourne issues and his views on national politics. July 2018

I think that a lot of it is rumour and problems actually around the fabled straight banana that we had to have which has been forecast for us from Europe. That was never a reality, it was just one of these things that propped from the papers, and I think one of the reasons why the country decided to leave Europe was because of the fantastic campaign that the Tories ran to sort of, try and get us to leave, saying about the £360m that we could reinvest back into the NHS, and all the other monies that we are spending that we don’t need to, and we can reinvest back into our own country.
